A male kestrel (Falco tinnunculus) in late summer. It is perched on a fence post looking for prey.
A male kestrel along the coastal path in path runs along cliffs for much of it's course and these cliffs are home to birds of prey such as peregrine falcon and kestrel. This kestrel was perched on a series of fence posts and the intervening wire whilst hunting for grass hopper in the vicinity. Periodically it would swoop to the ground to catch and eat such an insect. The number of kestrel is declining due to habitat loss. This photograph was taken in late summer.
