, Bruges, West Flanders, Belgium - The Grote Markt in the old town with the 1887 created memorial for the freedom fighters Jan Breydel and Pieter de Coninck. Jan Breydel and Pieter de Coninck performed the Bruegger guilds in their freedom fight of the year in 1302. In the background the facades of the houses on the north side of the town square. The medieval town center has been declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2000. In 2002, Bruges was European Capital of Culture.
