Below the depth at which true seaweeds flourish thedredge is often filled with masses of what the fishermanor trawler terms weed, but which the zoologistrecognizes as plant-like animals. Even for the zoologistit is not always easy to distinguish by the unaided eyebetween the feathery tufts of Hydroids (Figs. 90, 91,167) and the much more highly organized Polyzoa. Be-longing to the same division of the animal kingdom(Coelenterata) as the Hydroids are the sea-pens, or 236 ANIMALS OF THE SEA FLOOR.
