Hand-Power Cranes Hand-power traveling cranes are particularly applicableto light or infrequent service in foundries, machine shops, engine rooms and other places where speed of operationis not required. The bridge of such a crane generally is constructedeither of a single or a double standard I-beam girder, ora special Bethlehem beam. A single-web or a box-girderbridge is used for some cranes of this type when designedfor special heavy service. The bridge is mounted on two-wheel end trucks propelled by means of gears attachedto one wheel or to an axle extension on each end truckand to the squaring shaft. The power is applied by meansof an endless chain running over a sheave usually keyedto the squaring shaft or in some cases, to a separatesheave shaft, and is operated by hand from the floor.
