He wasfitted for college at the Cambridge High School,and was graduated Bachelor of Arts from Harvard ini88r. He afterwards pursued graduate studies atCornell University, from wliich he received the degreeof Master of .Arts in 18S4, and the degree of Doctorof Philosophy in r885. From 1885 to i888 hetaught in the Hughes High School at Cincinnati. Theyear iS88-rSS9 was spent in the American Schoolat .Athens, Clreece. He was instructor in Latin at. During Professor Kelseys absence,1892-1893, he was Acting Professor of the LatinLanguage and Literature. The following year hewas made Junior Professor of Latin, and in 1894Professor of Latin. He resigned this position in1902 to accept a professorship of the Latin Languageand Literature in the University of Pennsylvania,which position he still holds.
