The toilers are fitted with force draught blowers supplied bythe B. F. Sturtevanl Co. There are two stacks, each 125 ft. high, including sub-base, and to ft. internal diameter at sub-base and alsoat top. The furnaces are fitted with Jones under-feed stokers manufac-tured by the Under-Feed Stoker Co. of .America, with generaloffices in the Marquette Building. Chicago. There are 32 stokers in all, fourunder each boiler, for 6,ooo-h. p. .service. The stokers are of stand-ard type and the air is furnished by a blower driven by an auxiliaryengine. The coal, descending from the hopper is forced into andalong the retort by means of a ram plunger operated by steam. Theram at each fresh charge carries forward 15 to 20 lb. of coal; aplunger, or auxiliary ram, moving in connection, ensures an equaldistribution within the retort. The effect of this operation is togive the entire bed of fuel an upward and backward movement, thereby automatically breaking the fire at each charge, and forcingthe clinker and non-combustible to the dead plates on either sideof the retort. There are claimed for the Jones under-feed systemof stoking many distinct points of advantage for ope
