WASHINGTON DC, United States — The skyline of Rosslyn, a bustling neighborhood in Arlington, Virginia, rises across the Potomac River from Washington DC. In the foreground, the historic Arlington Memorial Bridge spans the river, connecting the Lincoln Memorial with Arlington National Cemetery. This view captures the seamless blend of the nation's capital with its Virginia suburbs.

Photograph by David Coleman. The skyline of Rosslyn, visible in this image, represents a striking juxtaposition of urban development against the backdrop of the nation's capital. Rosslyn, located in Arlington County, Virginia, is often referred to as Washington DC's "downtown across the river" due to its proximity and its dense cluster of high-rise office buildings and residential towers. The Potomac River, which flows in the foreground, has historically served as both a physical and symbolic boundary between the District of Columbia and Virginia. However, the modern development of Rosslyn illustrates how the Washington metropolitan area has grown beyond these traditional boundaries, creating a unified urban region. Arlington Memorial Bridge, prominently featured in the foreground, is more than just a transportation link. Completed in 1932, it was designed as a symbolic connection between North and South in the aftermath of the Civil War. The neoclassical bridge leads directly to Arlington National Cemetery on the Virginia side, creating a visual and spiritual link between the Lincoln Memorial and the former home of Confederate General Robert E. Lee. Rosslyn's skyline, dominated by sleek office towers and modern architecture, stands in contrast to the more traditional, height-restricted buildings of Washington DC. This difference is due to building height restrictions in the District, which limit structures to no more than 130 feet (with few exceptions), while across the river in Virginia, such restrictions do not apply. As a result, Rosslyn has become home to some of the tallest buildings in the Washington metropolitan area. The development of Rosslyn as a major business district began in the 1960s, transforming what was once a rather seedy industrial area into a thriving urban center. Today, it houses numerous government agencies, corporate headquarters, and media outlets, functioning as an extension of Washington DC's core business district. This view encapsulate
