In July, 1861, it was orderedeast and arrived at Washington in October, when it was put upon afull war footing under Captain John Gibbon, who had taken charge ofit the year before in Utah. It was attached to Kings Division ofMcDowells Corps. When Captain Gibbon was promoted to the command of whatafterwards was known as the Iron Brigade, Lieutenant Joseph took command of the Battery which was recruited to itsfull complement by men from the regim
