The deep-red Chinle Formation is exposed here at the mouth of Arroyo de los Frijoles where it flows into the Rio Chama about five miles upstream of Abiquiu, New Mexico. Lying uncomformably atop the Chinle is the Entrada Formation (pale cliffs, upper right) and atop that is the gypsum/limestone mixture of the Todilto Formation. The rocks we are standing on look like and probably are Entrada sandstone.
