Measuring blood pressure. Elderly patient having her blood pressure measured. The sphygmomanometer gauge is displaying a blood pressure reading while a healthcare worker (not seen) listens to the patient's pulse using a stethoscope. The inflated cuff on the arm temporarily cuts off the blood flow. As it is deflated, blood flow resumes and a reading of the pressure is taken. Blood pressure is an important indicator of health.
