Eupatoria - Jews' Synagogue and Schools, 1854. Yevpatoria is a city in Western Crimea on the Black Sea. It was the first port landed at by the allies during the Crimean War. The walls were covered with inscriptions in the Hebrew language, which I understood to be memorials of their took great pride in showing us a very beautiful manuscript on vellum of the Old Testament Scriptures, and explained to us that it was of great antiquity'.
