Medea hides her face with her veil in front of Absyrtus so that she will not see Jason killing him.

According to Greek mythology, the Argonauts, led by Jason, traveled to Colchis to take back the Golden Fleece. They were helped by the Colchis' King Aeetes' daughter, Medea. But on their escape, Jason, accompanied now by Medea, killed Medea's brother Apsyrtus (also spelled Absyrtus). Here, in this 1902 illustration, Medea hides her face with her veil in front of Apsyrtus so that she will not see Jason killing him.
