COASTAL ENVIRONMENTS The preceding sections of this chapter have described the onshore-offshore component of sediment transport, and also the flow of sediment parallel to the coast. Modes of shoreface displacement in response to rising and fall- ing sea level have been considered. These insights are prerequisites to an examination of specific patterns of coastal sedimentation.
