Dr. West, in writing of this, said:The consequence is, that a large proportion of our congre-gation is of German origin. I have found this German ele-ment no less substantial, reliable and in every way import- 42 HISTORY OF PATH VALLEY ant tnan the Scotch-Irish. And am disposed to regard thecommingling and blending of the two in the light of a very-happy marriage. In 1779 Mr. Dougal, finding the valley churches suf-ficiently strong to support him, he resigned his charge overthe Upper Tuscarora Church. After this year he devotedall his energies to the interests of the Path Valley REV. D. I. CAMP Present Pastor of the Upper Path Valley Chureh Mr. Dougals salary at first was 100 pounds, Pennsyl-vania currency ($), and part of this was paid inwheat. This he exchanged for land warrants to get ahome. This farm is now the property of the Daniel Ham-mond heirs and lies at the opening out of Amberson Valleyinto Path Valley. His heirs owned this property for manyyears and his son, who an elder in the Upper Church, livedupon it. It is commonly believed that this son organizedthe first Sundav School in the vallev.
