No gasket for use on a manhole orhandhole of any boiler shall have a thickness greater than ^ in. 264 All boilers must be provided with suitable manhole orhandhole openings, except special types where they are manifestlynot needed or used. A manhole shall be located in the front head, below the tubes, of a horizontal return tubular boiler 48 in. or overin diameter. Smaller boilers shall have either a manhole or a hand-hole below the tubes. There shall be a manhole in the upper partof the shell or head of a fire-tube boiler over 40 in. in diameter, except a vertical fire-tube boiler, or except on internally firedboilers not over 48 in. in diameter. The manhole may be placed inthe head of the dome. Smaller boilers shall have either a manholeor a handhole abo^^e the tubes. 74 rep
