The sea water buffers were broken down by the addition of 23 cc. HCl/liter of sea water, and the water was allowed to stand overnight in a shallow dish to permit escape of the excess CO2. The pH was adjusted by the addition of NaOH, and checked with Clark and Lubs indicators. Eggs were inseminated in the solutions after 10 minutes exposure. The results, as shown in Table XII, correspond well with those of Smith and Clowes for Arbacia, when allowance is made for the lighter.
