The School for a long time had been familiarlyknown as The Colver Institute, but for satis-factory reasons the more general name, The Rich-mond Institute, was inserted in the deed whichconveyed the property to the Trustees, and underthat name it was incorporated by an act passed bythe General Assembly of Virginia, February 10th,1876. On November 22d, 1876, the Trustees met inNew York City, and organized under the provis-ions of the very liberal charter which had beengranted them, exempting from taxation property tothe amount of $500,000.
