Ichapekene Piesta festival in San Ignacio de Moxos, the biggest festival in the bolivian lowlands
The Ichapekene Piesta of San Ignacio de Moxos is the biggest festival of the bolivian lowlands and features jesuit traditions mixed with indigenous ones, It takes place mainly over 4 days but lasts much longer. San Ignacio de Moxos is a Jesuit mission. The different costumes are worn by dance groups that parade the streets, including the broad-hat wearing and fireworks-making achus (grandfathers, said to be a satyrical version of the Jesuits), the macheteros with their big leafy hats and much others.
