Berlin U-bahn - U5 Magdalenenstrasse underground railway station platform with two yellow commuter trains and man walking

U5 is a line on the Berlin U-Bahn. It runs from Alexanderplatz in Mitte eastwards through Friedrichshain, Lichtenberg and Friedrichsfeld and terminates at Hönow. The Magdalenenstrasse station is lined with green tiles and decorated a series of 20 paintings depicting the history of Socialism. The pictures were painted by Wolfgang Frankenstein and Hartmut Hornung on Meissen clinker tiles. They were unveiled in 1986 at the time of east Berlin's 750th anniversary celebrations.
