Portion of second story and roof of Moravian Pottery and Tile Works.
Portion of second story and roof of Moravian Pottery and Tile Works. Stepped balcony edge foreground right with smooth walls of second story with mostly wooden and one wholly concrete window. Above is shallow pitched concrete roof with variety of chimneys and red tile roofed tower on left. Moravian Pottery and Tile Works is a unique poured concrete building designed and built by Henry Mercer during the Art and Crafts movement. It reflects the Spanish influence on mission architecture and was completed in 1912. It produced hand made tiles and mosaics for floors, walls and ceilings. Now a National Historic Landmark it is maintained as a working "working history" museum still producing a few limited decorative ceramic tiles.
