Nationalists, ever watchful where the interests of theircompatriots were concerned, provided what shelter waspossible. The secretary of the Ancient Order of Hibernians,Mr. J. McLarney, seeing the lads shelterless and hungry,found room for as many as he could at his own gave them supper, a nights rest, and breakfast; andarranged for them to be sent back to barracks as soon asthey could be received there. 124.
