Sgt. Kimberly Boyce, water purification specialist, 401st Quartermaster Detachment, Lock Haven, Pa., helps unload hoses from a vehicle necessary to pump water out basements Nov. 7 at the Redfern Housing complex, Rockaway, Residents at the complex have been without power since Hurricane Sandy hit the Northeast last week. Despite the effects of a second large storm, citizen-soldiers removed water from three buildings at the complex. The unit deployed into the area in direct support of the Federal Emergency Management Agency, state and local officials.
