LAUMEISTER,member of the Board of PublicA\orks when the first constructionwork done upon the MunicipalRailway was begun, has been formany years prominent in the publiclife of the City and State. His firstCity and County office was that ofSheriiT, in which he served two suc-cessive terms of two years each, hisincumbency lasting from 1888 to1892. Four years later he waselected State Railroad Commis-sioner, serving the full four-yearterm. In 1911 he was appointed amember of the San Francisco FireCommission, occupying that posi-tion for five months, and retiringfrom it to accept a seat on the Board of Public Works, of which bodyhe remained a member for three years. During his term he wasgiven supervising charge of the construction work done on the firstlink of the Municipal Railway, that designed to connect GoldenGate Park and Kearny street. He remained on the Board
