The "Canterbury Bells," so often spoken of, and yet so seldom seen. They aro biennials, flowering in May of the second season, even if planted as late as July or Au- gust of the preceding year. Most people con- sider it too tedious to plant seed one season and wait for them to bloom the next, but the regal beauty of a bed of these grand garden flowers is enough to pay for three years' waiting. They grow from two, to two and a half feet in height, and each branch is literal- ly covered with great, drooping bell-shaped flowers, often two inches or more in diame- ter, in delicate shades of blue, pink, flesh and white, and borne in such wonderful profusion as to completely cover the plant, making it a great pyramid of bloom. A large bed of these, such as was shown on the Wooded Island at the World's Fair, with a depth of bloom of nearly 2 feet, is a sight never to be forgotten.
