This illustration, dating to 1899, is by British artist and illustrator Fred Roe and shows the trial of Joan of Arc before the Ecclesiastical Council of Rouen. Joan of Arc (1412-1431) is a French saint and national heroine. In 1430, she was captured by the English as she retreated to Compiegne. A trial was held at Rouen, as seen here. Some of the proceedings took place in the Abbey of Fecamp.
