Species Sheets Each species sheet may contain the following infor- mation; a. Scientific name. The nomenclature that is used conforms generally to Kartesz & Kartesz (1980), but we deviate from this authority when there is good rea- son to do so. b. Synonyms. Synonyms are included only if they are necessary for an understanding of the cited litera- ture or our earlier publication (Argus & White 1977). c. Vernacular names. Vernacular names are given whenever possible. d. Maps. Herbarium specimens of candidate spe- cies studied from herbaria holding important collec- tions of Ontario flora provide the basis for the Ontario distribution maps. All specimens are reidentified and, as far as possible, nomenclatural and taxonomic problems are resolved. Specimens of candidate spe- cies are requested from major herbaria (Appendix I, section A) and supplementary specimens may be seen from other herbaria (Appendix I, section B). As the study continues additional herbaria may be added to this list and it will be updated as necessary. The acronyms of the herbaria holding specimens on which each map is based are listed on the map. The ab- sence from a map of an acronym of one of the major herbaria indicates that no specimens of that species were found in that
