Yellow chimney sponge, Polymastia boletiforme, found in waters off Lundy Island, North Devon, UK. A sessile multicellulate only slightly differentiated; the body wall consisting of just two layers. These are penetrated by water canals originating from pores, which join together into a communal exhalent tube. All sponges are current or filter feeders. The water current caused by flagellated cells carries particles and tiny organisms into the sponge's body, if they are small enough to pass through the pores.
