CONTRACT WITH A PRIVATE PHYSICIAN FOR SERVICE AS CONTRACT SURGEON, U. S. ARMY. THIS CONTRACT, entered into this 21st day of May 1918, at St. Louis, in the State of Missouri, between The Surgeon General, United States Army, and Esther E. Leonard, M. D., of St. Louis, in the State of Missouri, WITNESSETH: That for the consideration hereinafter mentioned the said Esther E. Leonard, M. D., promises and agrees to perform the duties of a medical officer, agreeably to Army Regulations, and the said The Surgeon General, United States Army, promised and agrees, on behalf of the United States, to pay, or cause to be paid, to the said Esther E. Leonard, M. D., the sum of One Hundred and Fifty dollars a month during the continuance of this contract, both when on duty and when absent therefrom by proper authority, the regulations as to leaves of absence for commissioned officers governing. When on station at or leave of absence from a post where quarters in kind are furnished by the United States, the said Esther E. Leonard, M. D., shall receive traveling allowances, as aforesaid, for actual travel only, to St. Louis, Missouri; provided that the said contract is not annulled for misconduct or neglect of duty, in which case no traveling allowances will be furnished. All of which shall be her full compensation, and in lieu of all emoluments not herein enumerated. It is mutually agreed and understood that this contract shall continue at least one month unless sooner determined by the Surgeon General of the Army, the department surgeon of a territorial department, the division surgeon of a mobilized division or the chief surgeon of a field army.
