Sliroudings are provided on theeonpling to cover the coupling holt heads and tn preventaccidental contact with the projecting parts. In order to investigate the temperature in the wind-ings of the generator, copper constantan thermocouples areprovided, which are placed either between the upper andlower coils or in the bottom of their slots. Theconnections are made by copper wire, asfar as the cold junction box; from there to the recording in-strument and the indicating instrument on the panel, theconnections are duplex copper wire. The indicating equip-. Armatu Coil, generators 4 and 5, Queenston-ChippawaPower Development ment is a special design for this particular plant and is verycomplete with indicating lamps and alarm contacts, besidesthe instruments mentioned above. With each generator is furnished a Tirrill voltage re-gulator, complete with line drop compensator. In assembling the unit the waterwheel casing is put inplace and then grouted in. The foundations for the gener-ator are then built up to the required height, for the assem-bling of the generator base. The generator proper is in apit. Four air inlets lead from an air supply duct throughthe concrete foundations to an inlet chamber underneaththe generator. The air then passes through the generatorinto the concrete pit in which the machine is placed; fromthere it is collected by means of a fan, and passed into theexhaust chamber and thence into the exhaust duct.
