Scrotum surgery. Image 2 of 9. Surgeon using an electrocautery (instrument that burns through skin, yellow) to cut through the scrotum of a man with a hydrocele. A hydrocele is the accumulation of fluid in the scrotal sac, which can be triggered by inflammation, infection or injury to the testis. Hydroceles are more common in middle aged men. Treatment of a hydrocele is usually through surgical drainage of the accumulated fluid. Also seen is a suction tube (left), which is used to remove excess blood.
