[1863 The regiment was ordered to China, June 28, 1900, to assist in the reliefof the United States Legation at Pekin, during the Boxer disturbances. Helanded with the Third battalion, July 12, at Taku, and at once proceeded upthe Peihd river by lighters arriving at Tientsin, at 10 a. m., the 13th. Hereported to General Dorward of the British Armj^, who was in command ofthe British and American forces. Colonel Coolidge was directed to care forthe wounded soldiers as they were brought from the field. Colonel Liscum beingkilled in battle on the 13th, the command of the regiment devolved uponColonel Coolidge. He remained in command of his regiment until the arrival ofColonel Robe in Pekin, August , 1900. On the 14th, the walled city ofTientsin was blown open by the Japanese troops and the city entered by theallied forces; was in command of the United States forces in China from July20 to 26. He took part in the battles at Tientsin, July 13, Yantsan, August 8and
