Brought down electricityfrom the clouds, 1752. Discoverer of the utility of lightning rods. Deputy Postmaster-General of the British Colonies in America. 1753. Founder of the Academy of Sciences,same year. From 1757 spent several years in England as agent of several by Congress as Commissioner to France, 1776. Was a commissioner to arrangetreaty of peace. Appointed Minister to France. Participated in the framing of theFederal Constitution, 17S7. Died April 17, i7go.
