Heinrich Christian Schumacher (1780-1850), German astronomer. Schumacher was director of the observatory at Mannheim from 1813-1815, and then professor of astronomy at Copenhagen. He is best remembered for his 1821 founding of the academic journal Astronomische Nachrichten (Astronomical Notes), which is the oldest continuously published astronomical journal, still being published over 180 years later. He was awarded the Gold Medal of the Royal Astronomical Society in 1829.
