Senator Thompson & German war relics, c1914-1920. American politician and colleagues with war trophies posing by The Rescue sculpture, Capitol Building, Washington, The Rescue by Horatio Greenough, and another sculpture, The Discovery of America by Luigi Persico, flanked the entrance to the Capitol from the mid 19th century. They were eventually removed in 1958 as they were deemed offensive to Native Americans. The Rescue depicts a confrontation between a bellicose American Indian warrior and a pioneer family.
