Am I getting the best efficiency from my boiler, with a 3-inch main flow con- nected by three IMi-inck offshoots to the manifolds under the three benches'? The manifolds increase to 3-inch from the 1%-inch supply. Enclosed you will find a diagram which may make my question clearer. N. F. The sketch shows a 3-inch main from which three l^r^-inch supply pipes are taken off to feed as many manifolds. It is evident that the three li/^-inch pipes will not be able to handle as much water as can be furnished by the 3-inch main. If the coils, however, are not rather large, it is possible that each of the 1%-inch pipes will be large enough to supply its respective coil, and if so, that is all that is desired. Kegarding the capacity of a 114-inch supply pipe, it may be said that a good deal will depend upon its length and the height above the boiler, and the actual amount of radiation will be con- siderably modified by the number, size and length of the pipes in the coils. While it might answer for 250 square feet of radiation if the supply pipe is short and there are only a few mod- erately small pipes in long coils, well above the boiler, a maxinlum amount would be 100 square feet if there are numerous, rather large pipes in a short coil which is but little above the boiler.
