1957 FOOT & MOUTH DISEASE OUTBREAK - - An old press photograph of a British 'Bobby' (policeman) and an Inspector from the Ministry of Agriculture (dipping his shoes in disinfectant) on a farm where Foot & Mouth disease had recently broken out. The disease had gained a foothold in British farms after a serious outbreak in the 1920s. Outbreaks occured regularly for the next 40 years. 1967 and the year 2001 saw other major outbreaks.
