. Influence of valve setting on efficiency and capacity of a 25 horse power International Harvester Company gasoline engine. iciency. The high gasoline consumption at lowloads is due to the fact that all the tests ?/eremade a constant needle valve setting, adjustedat full load. The maximum power wasslightly increased, from 29,9 , in test numberone and 34,4 H,P, in teet number 2, to 35,85 H,P,in test number 3, It should be noted thst no v/aterwas injected into the cylinders at overload. It is probable that the intake valveswere held open too long, for the wavy exhaust on theindicator cards illustiates a burning exhaust Euidvariable pressure. The mechanical efficiency howeverwas greatly increased. -92- We are indebted to the follov;ing studentsfor valuable assistance in naking the verious tests; L. E, Hibbard •15 H. H. Gwinn •16 F. L.
