A Durango & Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad tourist train just prior to its departure northbound for Silverton, Colorado. The railroad drawsa significant number of tourists during late spring to early autumn providing a thrilling ride through Rocky Mountain terrain. The 3-foot narrow guage line runs 45 miles between its two terminal points and began operation in 1981. Its locomotive fleet was obtained from other railroads that ran in the area. The pictured locomotive was built in 1925 by Baldwin Locomotive Works. The railway is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
