Black bird “Turdus marula” perched on a branch in a wood in the UK.
The male blackbird is black with a bright orange-yellow bill, while the female is brown. Blackbirds have a long tail and often hop along the ground with their tail up. They feed on berries, scraps and apples, and are often found searching for worms in your lawn. In winter, migrant blackbirds from northern Europe join our resident birds. Blackbirds have an extremely complex and varied song, which they add to through mimicry, learning and inventiveness.
