At the end of the war he disbanded thevolunteers and adjusted financial claims to the satisfaction ofthe majority. Over three quarters of a million dollars weredisbursed for the government, all accounts for which werefound to be correct. In his career in Congress he secured the ratification of hisIndian treaties, payment of the Indian war debt, the openingof the interior to settlement and the punlshmexit of Indianmurderers:..
