Sleep apnoea treatment. Continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) device used to treat obstructive sleep apnoea syndrome, a respiratory illness associated with snoring. Sleep apnea is a lack of oxygen while sleeping, caused by the pharynx (throat) narrowing as the muscles relax, causing snoring. If the airways close completely, breathing can stop temporarily. Left untreated, this can affect the patient's quality of life due to lack of sleep and the effects of reduced oxygen. The CPAP device allows air to circulate without obstruction, ensuring a deep sleep so that the patient wakes refreshed.
