Liver surgery. Close-up of the opening stages of liver surgery, with various layers of tissue being opened up with a surgical tool to reach the liver. This surgery is being carried out on a 55-year-old man who had obstructive jaundice and a suspected liver malignancy. The surgery was a resectioning of the liver. Subsequent histological inspection showed chronic inflammation only, with no malignancy.
