In one instance atAssos, that of an exceptionally heavy corner piece, the entireU-shaped boss had broken away, and was replaced by a deepslot, into which the end of a beam could be inserted. Of thesecond variety, a square or oblong slot, about 8 cm. in width, isthe most simple form, and is, as a general rule, employed uponone end of all those stones which were lifted by upon both ends of which were simple slots of this kind. 0 i,„ Fig. 15.
