Salbutamol sulphate crystals, coloured scanning electron microscope (SEM). Salbutamol sulphate (ventolin) is a bronchodilator drug used to treat asthma. Asthma is a condition that causes narrowing of tiny airways in the lungs, which become inflamed and lead to attacks of wheezing and breathlessness. Salbutamol sulphate works by stimulating the beta 2 receptors in the lung, causing the muscles in the airways to relax and allowing the airways to open.
