An F/A-18E Super Hornet assigned to the “Royal Maces” of Strike Fighter Squadron (VFA) 27 launches across the flight deck of the Navy's only forward-deployed aircraft carrier, USS Ronald Reagan (CVN 76). The steam-powered catapult can launch an aircraft from zero to approximately 170 miles per hour in less than three seconds. Ronald Reagan, the Carrier Strike Group Five (CSG 5) flagship, is on patrol supporting security and stability in the Indo-Asia-Pacific region.
