Thus, during the season of 1851, Mr. and 62 springs near the homestead were leased, buildings erected, and at the opening of the season of 1852, the original Williams Factory commenced operations. De Witt managed the general farm- ing, while Jesse Williams and George, with their wives, devoted themselves to the factory and its work. That season the family held 70 cows, and they purchased the milk of 290 more. From its start the factory proved a success, and this was largely due to the high quality of its pnxluet.
