Submaxillary Ranula.—Complete extirpation of the cyst is carried outthrough the submaxillary route. The operation is very simple, and doesnot require a special description (see Operations on the SubmaxillaryRegion). Malignant Tumours. If we except some cases of sarcoma and of ill-defined mixed tumours,primary malignant tumours of the tongue and of the buccal floor are almostexclusively epitheliomata. Epithelioma may commence at any point ofthe buccal mucous membrane. We know the frequency of cancerousdegeneration of lingual psoriasis and of ulceration initiated by contact witha carious tooth.
