Pneumonia. X-ray of the lung of a 69 year old man showing pneumonia (white, centre), a bacterial infection of the lung. The infection causes the airways in the lungs to fill up with pus produced by the bacteria, giving the lung a cloudy appearance. A healthy lung would appear very dark. Treatment of the condition is with antibiotics, but left untreated for too long it can prove fatal.
