Johann Sebastian Bach's house, Leipzig, Germany, c1890. German composer and organist Johann Sebastian Bach (1685-1750) is considered by many to be the greatest composer in the history of western music, particularly in terms of his compositions for the organ. In 1723 he moved to Leipzig when he secured the position of cantor and musical director of St Thomas Church.
