Common limpet Patella vulgata on granite rock. Limpets are a common molluscan grazer on intertidal shores in Britain

Common limpets (Patella vulgata) are a common animal which live on rocky shores around Britain. They feed by grazing algae off rocks by scraping the surface with their rasping toungue called a radula when the tide is in. As the tide goes out they return to their 'home spot' on the rock and clamp themselves down tight to await the next high tide.
